Job Description:

Purpose:

The Director of Family Ministries and Community Engagement will oversee and coordinate discipleship and mission opportunities for children, youth, and their parents that foster a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and commitment to the church and community. They will recruit, equip, and guide a ministry team of volunteers in providing high-quality ministries for the children and youth of the church, along with resourcing parents to raise their children in the faith. In addition, they will develop Christ-centered relationships in the community through involvement in school and community activities.

 Leadership:

  • Recruit, equip, and lead lay volunteers to carry out the discipleship and missions ministries of the church for ages 3 to 18.
  • Coordinate and supervise nursery staff and volunteers for ages 0 to 2.
  • Collaborate with existing teams for ministry and mission execution.
  • Represent Family Ministries as a part of the church staff, Administrative Council, and in other areas of the church and community.
  • Actively develop relationships in the community through involvement in school and community activities.

 Programming:

  • Work with the Directing and Associate Pastors to develop a womb-to-tomb discipleship strategy. This position is specifically accountable for womb-to-12th grade ministries.
  • Plan, oversee, coordinate, and manage education ministry programs for children and youth both during the school year and summer. These programs include, but are not limited to, Sunday School, Wednesday night children and youth ministries, VBS, and Mission Camp.

 Administration:

  • Manage communication with children, youth, families, and the congregation using the various communication tools available.
  • Coordinate schedules and volunteers. Screen and ensure volunteers follow Safe Gatherings protocols.
  • Develop and oversee budgets for nursery staff, and children and youth education and missions.
  • Manage the children and youth spaces of the church, ensuring they are safe, clean, and presentable for shared use.

Necessary Attributes:

A mature Christian faith, a demonstrable knowledge of Scripture, and an ability to think theologically are required, as well as the ability to:

  • Maintain a healthy and growing spiritual life and lead others to do the same.
  • Relate easily to parents, children, youth, and church members.
  • Work independently and creatively in setting goals and completing tasks.
  • Be available evenings and weekends to participate in school and community activities.
  • Administer various programs, including recruitment and supervision of staff and volunteer leaders.
  • Budgeting, effective planning, and clear communication.
  • Climb stairs and lift approximately 35 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Master of Arts in Family Ministries preferred, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a team of leaders, be a team player, develop and oversee a budget, and coordinate ministry with the church staff to achieve the mission of the church.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent planning abilities, including the ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities as well as demonstrated ability to execute well-organized programs and events.
  • Effective communication skills with children, youth, and their parents.
  • Strong technological proficiency and social media skills.

Additional Information:
This position is a full-time, salaried position, and the salary is based upon a projected 35-50 hours per week. The actual number of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Furthermore, it is recognized that the schedule may vary at different times of the year. Paid vacation, sick days, holidays are included in employment per MMC employee protocols.
