JOB TITLE:  Director of Kid City (Children’s Ministry - birth through 5th Grade)                                        


REPORTS TO: Campus Pastor

This position furthers the spiritual mission of Harvest Christian Fellowship


The Kid City Director is responsible for the volunteers, Kid City leaders, and associated staff of the Children’s Ministry.  The Kid City Director’s main duties are to strengthen the leadership of, and participation in Harvest children’s ministry.  In addition, the Director of Kid City is directly responsible for training, recruiting, coordinating, retaining, and leading new and future volunteers and leaders to serve children’s ministry. This position helps to grow the church through children ministry.







The Kid City Director is responsible for leading the children’s ministry of a Harvest Christian Fellowship campus. In this position, Kid City Directors will work directly under the Campus Pastor and remain accountable to him in all areas of performance. Kid City Directors will also work closely with the Kid City Directors of other campuses to provide congruent services and operations all of Harvest’s children’s ministries. Primary areas of responsibility include:

  • Champion the mission and vision of Harvest Christian Fellowship in how we minister to children
  • Implement strategies and tactical elements for all programs, activities, and educational aspects related to Harvest’s children’s ministry
  • Manage, oversee, and direct all activities related to Harvest’s children’s ministry
  • Oversee and develop children’s ministry leaders and potential leaders in the following ways:
  • Connect with individual volunteers at least once a month for ministry updates relating to staffing, curriculum, and any other areas relevant to their service
  • Meet with the entire children’s ministry team at least once every quarter 
  • Protect children’s safety by providing a healthy and safe facility and ensuring the trustworthiness of the serving team and ministry processes


 II.     LEADERSHIP       

  • Utilize appropriate skills in executing the responsibilities of a Kid City Director while exhibiting effective teamwork and communication techniques  that contribute to the overall operation of the children’s ministries.
  • Understand, participate in, and contribute to quality improvement plans and methods related to the operations and ministry of the campus.




The Kid City Director shall exhibit the following qualities in the leadership of the children’s ministry of their Harvest campus:

  • A growing personal relationship with Christ made evident by spiritual depth and maturity
  • An engaging presence and desire to connect relationally with people who don’t know Christ
  • High-energy self-starter who enjoys both interacting with people and managing tasks/short-term projects
  • Strong people skills, a focus on “customer service,” and the ability to work together effectively with colleagues
  • A value for honesty, keeping commitments, and conducting personal behavior in a consistent manner
  • A respect and fairness to others that includes the ability to listen to and objectively consider the ideas and opinions of others, even when they conflict his or her own ideas.
  • The ability to communicate openly by clarifying purpose and importance in a positive manner, stressing major points. uses an appealing style, candidness and humor.
  • Excellent skills in managing and teaching children using a biblical curriculum and transmitting Harvest values as much as possible.
  • The ability to identify problems and make appropriate decisions in a reasonable time frame, determining what action is needed
  • Willingness to take action when confronted with a problem or problematic situation by implementing new ideas and potential solutions without prompting
  • Readiness to take action that goes beyond job requirements in order to achieve the objectives of the ministry
  • Spiritual, emotional, and intellectual growth, facilitated by the setting of personal goals related to Scriptural knowledge, cultural awareness, and leadership ability.




In this position, the Kid City Director must:


        Volunteer Management

  • Turn vision (direction) into best practices and systems that can be duplicated and evaluated.
  • Implement systems and processes that support programs and volunteers 
  • Identify, recruit, train, and empower leaders and teachers. 
  • Oversee teams for the Kid City ministry on Sundays, Wednesdays, and during other Special Events.
  • Implement approved curriculum(s) 
  • Offer pastoral care and encouragement to Kid City staff and volunteers 
  • Assemble and disseminate information to volunteers, ensuring a coordination of dates and events requiring child-related services
  • Accurately record attendance with the online attendance tool 


         Strategic Management

  • Ensure proper staffing and resources are available for all age groups 
  • Brainstorm with the campus leadership team regarding future educational needs, teaching opportunities, and volunteer leadership solutions
  • Communicate regularly to with the Campus Pastor of Harvest for the mutual transmission of vision for Kid City
  • Plan, organize, and collaborate with the Kid City Directors of other campuses as required
  • Maintain a strategy for reaching and assimilating new children and families 


       Leadership Skills

  • Supply teachers and teams with the proper materials for all Kid City activities
  • Serve as a classroom facilitator/instructor 
  • Manage online content 
  • Solve problems using the resources available 
  • Demonstrate creativity in the use of curriculum, resources, and people 
  • Bring a presence of confidence, peace, and joy to Kid City 
  • Recruit new leaders based on staffing needs 
  • Support and coach Leaders 



The Kid City Director is responsible for the fiscal management of all operations related to campus Kid City activities, in coordination with the Campus Administrator.




        The Kid City Director’s success will be evaluated based on the following parameters:

  • Parent satisfaction with the program (parent survey) 
  • Ministry program growth (attendance) 
  • Increase and maintenance of volunteer participation (volunteers added) 
  • Team participation in volunteer training activities 



  • Able to read, write, and converse in English
  • Able to communicate with all types of members, guests, staff, and vendors if necessary.
  • Able to remain calm and composed when under stress.
  • Able to bend, lift 10-20 pounds, push/pull objects, and/or tolerate extended periods of standing or sitting.
  • Able to respond to phones of all types and other auditory stimulations.
  • Able to accurately quantify and demonstrate sufficient mathematical skills.
  • Able to evaluate and interpret information, then use it to make independent decisions.
  • Ability to competently communicate face-to-face, over the phone, and via email
  • If filling a specifically bilingual position, the Kid City Director must be able to read, write, and converse in Spanish as well. If applicable, this requirement will be communicated during the hiring process.

The Kid City Director should demonstrate evidence of a passion for children’s ministry as well as genuine interest in the hopes and concerns of children and families in the community. He or she should also have prior experience in effective ministry leadership and some form of training in child development. He or she must listen well and communicate effectively with people of all ages, be skilled in implementing ministry plans, and work well with others. The Kid City Director’s leadership abilities must allow for the delegation of responsibility and adequate follow-up to ensure job completion. In order to ensure these abilities, Harvest has established the following guidelines for applicants.


  1. A preferred minimum of five years in a position related to child development or other similar ministry area. A bachelor’s degree in Child Development or Elementary Education is preferred.
  2. Demonstrable leadership experience and team-building skills 
  3. Demonstrable high level of ability in organizational systems management 
  4. Ability to function independently 
  5. Experience managing personnel and developing teams that thrive 
  6. Basic life support certification 
  7. Documented track record of successful recruiting, equipping, and training of volunteers.
