Overview:
Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church is a vibrant congregation in St. John, IN, a fast-growing area of Northwest Indiana. We are seeking a Parish Administrator who is friendly and welcoming, has a deep love of God and the church, excellent people skills, and top-notch organization. The position is primarily in-person with the possibility of negotiating some remote work. This person works alongside the Pastor, Music Director, Clerical Assistant, and Director of Congregational Life. Foundation in Scripture comes from 2 Corinthians 9:12: The rendering of this ministry not only supplies the needs of the saints but also overflows with many thanksgivings to God.

Duties:

- Greet and assist members and visitors to the church

- Manage phone calls, correspondence, and deliveries

- Maintain accurate church membership records

- Publish annual church directory

- Produce and distribute all church correspondence (digital and print)

- Maintain the church website

- Assist with scheduling and organizing church events

- Prepare materials for worship services, programs, and events

- Coordinate the monthly and recurring church mission projects

- Utilize church volunteers effectively to complete the mission of the church

- Utilize accounting skills to complete several financial duties and reports

- Arrange for office equipment maintenance and repairs

- Communicate immediate member or building needs to the appropriate contact

- Willing to complete other projects as assigned

Qualifications:

- Exhibit a commitment to God, His church, and the mission and ministry of Holy Shepherd

- Excellent attitude and stellar organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

- Able to maintain confidentiality and interact with a wide range of members and visitors

- Proven experience as a parish administrator or in a similar role

- Self-starter able to work independently, in a group setting, and has multitasking abilities

- General accounting knowledge and ability to navigate various databases

- Proficient with computer programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint).

Compensation:

The total compensation package for this position is in the range of $40,000. The employee may elect to receive this compensation entirely as cash salary, split between cash salary and 403(b) retirement benefit, or split among cash salary, health insurance, and 403(b) retirement benefit.

This is considered a full-time position with the option of benefits under the ELCA’s Pension and Health Benefits Plan. If the Parish Administrator wants medical insurance for his or her spouse and/or children, the cost of the premiums must be subtracted from his or her salary as an after-tax payroll deduction. Vacation time and other benefits are described in the Staff Guidelines.
