Position: Teach Assistant

 

Shift: Weds-Frid 7am-12pm

 

Supervisor: Preschool Program Director

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

The qualified candidate must be at least 21 years old and have earned a high school diploma or equivalent certificate (GED). The candidate must have a minimum of an associate degree in childhood development or early childhood education or the equivalent (defined as 64 semester hours in any discipline with a minimum of 21 semester hours of college credit in child development, early childhood education or early childhood special education.) Must show sensitivity and maturity and be able to relate well to both preschool children and adults. The candidate must be willing and able to support the mission of Lydia Home Association.

 

Must have:

  • The ability to lift 50 pounds up to 10 times a shift
  • The ability to lead physical activities
  • The ability to participate in outdoor activities throughout the year
  • Hearing adequate to function in a classroom setting,
  • A fitness level which allows you to fully participate in activities for an entire shift including sitting in small chairs or on the rug,
  • Must be able and willing to support the mission of Lydia Home Association.

 

Dress: The e teacher  must wear modest clothing and practical shoes that are conductive to participating with children in various activities, and a watch.  Daily wearing a watch is vital to maintaining the daily schedule.

 

Function: The substitute teacher’s assistant provides assistance to the teachers and children in the early childhood program and school-age program.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist and help teachers implement the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the center
  2. Facilitate children’s play, and learning experiences.
  3. Teach children appropriate ways to handle conflict and help children learn problem-solving skills.
  4. Serve each child and each family with dignity and respect and guard the families’ confidentiality.
  5. Be prepared to lead a group of children in academic skills – letters, number, gross and fine motor skills when needed. 
  6. Assist with the general housekeeping of the classrooms.
  7. Assist in record keeping and documentation.
  8. Assist the teachers in the production of learning resources.
  9. Attend and assist with all children’s performance program and parent meetings (including Christmas program, open house and parent teacher conferences).
  10. Assist in all aspects of field trips/off-campus outings.
  11. Read staff communication log before beginning shift
  12. Administer first aide to children and document any treatment given for program and parents’ records.
  13. Participate in quality assurance/quality improvement activities.
  14. Complete 15 training hours, including CPR and first aid each year.
  15. Assist school-age children in their daily homework after school if needed.
  16. Drive to drop-off and/or pick-up school-age children from school if needed.
  17. Assist and facilitate children’s play
  18.   Work as a team to keep the classroom in an ordered appearance.
  19.   Report any concerns about children or program to preschool director.
  20.  Using smiles, loving and appropriate touch, and voice inflection, create and maintain a warm, loving and secure atmosphere for each child.
  21.  Maintain the daily schedule which includes time for cooperative play, various small group learning activities, gross motor play, meal times, rest time and smooth transitions.
